My #1 Vitamin C Gummies to Stay Healthy

Back to school season, winter around the corner, or just a random sniffle, increasing Vitamin C is a great way to boost the immune system.

My favourite way to get Vitamin C into the kids is through making my own gummies!

AA gummies

Ascorbic Acid is the pure form of Vitamin C, and after getting it naturally in food, this is my favourite way to consume it. Many of the vitamins are cut with fillers and other products that aren’t good for the body. This is why it is important to find high-quality vitamins and minerals when taking supplements.

Taking Ascorbic Acid (AA) is very sour though. As much as I will add it to a shot glass of water and shoot it back, my kids will NOT drink it that way, so I mask the sour in fruit gummies. Some juices do mask it well also. Adding 1/4tsp to a cup of juice and drinking it daily is another great way to increase your Vitamin C.

I always look for organic juice, we don’t drink juice often in the house, any grocery store will have organic juices to make yummy gummies

What you will need:

  • 2 1/4 cup of juice of choice, divided.

  • 5 TBS grass-fed gelatin

  • 6 tsp ascorbic acid

  • Raw unheated honey to taste

Method:

  • Pour 1 cup of juice into a pot and heat until you see bubbles starting to appear.

  • Add in the gelatin and whisk until smooth, This will take a few minutes.

  • Add in additional juice and AA.

  • Whisk until smooth and no clumps are left.

  • Remove from heat and let it cool down to under 110F. This is important to help keep the enzymes in the raw honey.

  • Add in raw unheated honey to sweeten it a little if needed.

  • Pour into a glass container or molds, set in the fridge overnight. Cut it into as many pieces as you desire once set.

It is important to store these in the fridge as they do melt a little when at room temperature. I often make a double batch and put half in the freezer!

This recipe contains 25g of AA, so when cutting makes sure you cut to the amount you want per gram.

Be careful not to eat too many of them, as it can cause diarrhea. Only eat to bowel tolerance.

grass fed gelatin

For my grass-fed gelatin, I like to use Great Lakes Unflavored Gelatin. If it isn’t in stock for some reason, I will use  Organika Bovine Gelatine Powder

For my ascorbic acid, I like to use one that is more of a fine powder. Some of the cheaper brands I find are more of a coarse powder and I find hard on my gut. The fine powder ones aren’t as sour and better on my system. I alternate between Innotech Nutrition Pure Vitamin C as Ascorbic Acid  and one from IHerb.

I often just pour them into a glass 9×9 pan and let them set and cut into squares. However if you want to make it fun, you can use these fun molds to make different creatures! There are so many different molds to pick from, from holiday themes to creatures and bugs! Kids love both, so it really depends on how much effort I want to put into it. They do need to eat a few more of the small gummies to get the amount of AA they need daily.
